Such A Thing As An “Ideal Match”?

Soulmates and “other halves”, lovers and best friends; love comes in many shapes and sizes, and if you’re currently single it’s likely you’re watching those in love wherever you go. It’s the couples on the escalators who share a kiss as they go. It’s the hand holding and PDA and the gentle touch on the lower back as she makes her way through a door. Those miniature manifestations of love that are watched from a distance can often make you feel like you’re missing something.

The single life? It can suck, let’s be honest. It’s all well and good feeling like an empowered woman who “don’t need no man”, but there is always a tiny little piece of you that thinks, just once, that would be nice. Maybe not the full relationship, but the wining and dining and PDA on the escalators. That peck on the cheek and the smile reserved just for you over coffee. It’s all wonderfully packaged for those who are single, and it makes you wonder whether there is someone out there for you, taking the wrong directions to find you. Whether you are looking for Muslim singles or you’re on the hunt for a bad boy, love is there somewhere, but does that mean there’s a perfect “One” for you? Does it mean that Prince Charming really does have a shining , or is he just an idiot in tin foil?

To be quite honest, no one really knows if there is an “ideal match” out there for them. They find someone that they could tolerate who looks attractive, and if it’s a good match, you’ll be able to laugh together and share those moments and grow into love at the same pace. Those out there who give you that fireworks feeling in the pit of your stomach? They’re not that often the perfect person for you for life, but they may be the perfect person in that one moment. There’s no way to know if there’s a real soulmate, but you can certainly figure it out with time and attention. So many people fall in love spontaneously, but it is often lust first, not love. Does that mean that they can’t be the ideal person for you? Of course not.

When it comes down to it, “The One” isn’t perfect. They’re not the best thing since sliced bread and they’re not flawless. In fact, the person who is meant for you is very flawed, not at all perfect and you’ll probably bicker with them a lot. The thing is, that’s life; that’s humanity. That’s someone you can bounce off of and laugh with. Someone you can memorise from head to toe. Someone who will order you the right coffee by heart, knowing what you like.

Someone you can share some PDA with on the escalator one day. They’re out there and waiting for you. It just depends on whether you are looking in the right places to find them. Don’t wait – light the match!
