How To Ensure Your Employer Is Looking After Your Health
Is your employer looking after your health? It’s something that’s often not thought about or considered when you’re an employee in the workplace but the company you work for has a responsibility for your health and wellbeing. From providing you with the relevant support, benefits package, and safety in the workplace, if there’s anything that’s not currently being provided by your employer, then it’s definitely worth considering what needs to change. With that being said, here are some tips to ensure your employer is looking after your health this year.
Ensure Your Employer Is Looking After Your Health
Check they have occupational healthcare available
Healthcare is an important one because you never know what might happen while you’re employed and under the responsibility of the company you work for. Whether there’s negligence or not, there are always accidents that can occur in the workplace that might not be anyone’s fault in particular but puts you at risk.
With that being said, it’s good to check with your employee, what type of healthcare is currently being provided. Are they offering the best occupational health possible? If not, then it’s worth querying this with your HR, especially if there are certain areas of healthcare that aren’t being offered and you feel are worth getting.
Be sure a weekly or monthly one-to-one meeting is provided
A weekly or monthly one-to-one meeting is important when it comes to your health and well-being. There might be things you want to discuss with your supervisor or manager and that aren’t being addressed because you’re not getting the opportunity to discuss them.
While it can be hard to organize and it might be something that’s missed by your manager, it’s something to be proactive in chasing. Being able to sit down with your manager or supervisor to discuss any feelings you might have or concerns, is important. If you’re not getting it frequently enough, then it’s good to pull this up with your manager.
Ask about workplace flexibility
Workplace flexibility is definitely important in this day and age. Many companies nowadays are embracing hybrid working environments where staff can work from the office but also have the option of working from home as and when it fits.
If you’re looking to do the same but it’s not being offered, then it’s something that should definitely be queried. Chances are, they may be able to offer it to you. If not, then you could always look elsewhere for a job that does provide that flexibility for your working environment.
Check your employer is allowing you to have time off when needed
Everyone needs to have time off of work at some point. Are you having your holiday approved and are you getting enough time off in ratio to how much you work? If not, then this is something you need to bring up with your management and HR needs to be looped in.
Your employer has a responsibility to look after you in the workplace, so make sure they’re doing so currently or seek further guidance on what needs to change.
