Give yourself (and your guests) plenty of notice
When you throw a surprise party you want to ensure both you and your guests have plenty of notice. You need your guests to know well in advance to ensure they can make it and you need time to plan. The general rule of thumb is to give at least a month to plan, however, if you can make this longer it’s a good idea to do so. This will give you time to source a venue, decide on things such as a theme and food and drink and to get the necessary RSVPs from people. Don’t forget to ensure the guest of honour is free that day and figure out a plan to get them to the venue!
Decide on a theme
A theme is a great way to elevate your surprise party. There are a host of themes to choose from, including black tie, films, colours, Great Gatsby and so many more. Think about what the reason is for throwing the party and also the interests of the person you’re celebrating. If you are having fancy dress as part of your theme, you’re going to need to get something for the person you’re surprising to change into – you don’t want them to be left out after all!
Choose some entertainment
You want a surprise party to go down well with guests and be something they remember and talk about for months to come. By adding in entertainment you can make it that bit more memorable and fun. There are a plethora of entertainment options, from a DJ and a dance floor, to a photo booth such as those from Booths by Lux. You could have a karaoke machine, fairground rides, casino tables and so much more – the choice is endless! Again, consider the interests of the person you’re surprising, your budget and what overall theme you have opted for.
These are just a few top tips that can help you to throw a surprise party in no time. While they might require a fair amount of planning, it’s always worth it to see your loved ones’ face when they walk through the door and get a pleasant shock!
